I graduated from the University of Texas at
El Paso with a degree in Kinesiology and
Sports Studies. For the past 20 years I have
been employed as a teacher and coach with
the El Paso Independent School District.
During this time I have enjoyed working with
children from a variety of socioeconomic
backgrounds. I have been enriched by their
many cultures and blessed by being a part of
their growth. Working with children in the
class room and on the sports field has given
me a great opportunity to see how children
adapt best to their environment and which
teaching styles promote positive learning
and emotional stability. During my
employment I met my wife and partner,
Patricia Powers. We have been blessed with
five boys, Richard Powers IV, David Powers,
Steven Powers, Patrick Powers, and Ernesto
Powers. The experiences my wife and I have
gained as teachers and parents motivated us
to open a business where we can continue to
have a positive impact on children’s lives.

I was raised in Presidio, Texas, a small
town south of El Paso. I came to El Paso to
attend UTEP and I received a Bachelors
degree in Early Childhood and Bilingual
Education. At age 21, I began teaching
Pre-Kindergarten. I have been teaching for
16 years and I truly love it. As a child I
always knew I wanted to be surrounded by
children. When I married my husband, we made
a decision to form a Kindergarten of our
own; we now have 5 boys. As a mother, I
understand the hardship of finding a loving
and safe place to leave your children. This
has inspired me to create a place where
parents can trust that their children will
be well taken care of. By providing a caring
staff and home cooked meals, I want the
children to feel safe like home. I believe
my purpose in life is to care for and
nurture children. A child is the ultimate
gift a person can receive, and are the HEART
of the world, without them life would have
little meaning. It is a privilege to be able
to serve God’s smallest children. |

I
have worked in Children’s Education for 20
years. I started in Phoenix, Arizona, where
I was a Center Director for 6 years. Then I
moved to Denver, Colorado and worked with
severe special needs children in the public
school classroom setting. I recently moved
back to El Paso, where I became
Director-qualified and started working with
Power Kidz. In my spare time, when I am not
helping children learn, I enjoy reading,
biking or hiking. |
